W. Eilenberg ist ein engagierter, habilitierter Oberarzt an der Abteilung für Gefäßchirurgie, Universitätsklinik für Allgemeinchirurgie. Er hat sein PhD mit der Rolle der neutrophilen Granulozyten in der Karotisstenose absolviert. In den letzten Jahren hat sich sein Forschungsgebiet auf das abdominelle Aortenaneurysma und NETs (neutrophil extracellular traps-Protein/DNA Komplexe) erweitert, folgend daraus ein Horizon 2020 EU grant eingereicht zu dem Thema “Metformin als erste konservative Therapie im Aortenaneurysma”. Seit Oktober 2020 leitet er das Aortenprogramm “Novel Endovascular Devices in an Artificial circulatory specialized Vascular Model in stentgrafts and bridging stents”. Sein aktuelles Spezialgebiet an der Abteilung für Gefäßchirurgie ist die Versorgung von komplexen endovaskulären Aortenaneurysmen.
